Tourism UK was commissioned as part of a wider team including PLB Consulting and MACE project management to provide WCC with an appraisal of options ensuring that options presented were financially, functionally and technically feasible. Harperley POW Camp Tourism UK Ltd was commissioned to undertake a feasibility study and options appraisal on the potential for the Harperley POW Camp as a mixed use visitor site. The site has Scheduled Ancient Monument status and has a number of buildings on the “Building at Risk” register. The camp was a runner up in the BBC’s “Restoration” programme broadcast in 2003. Through a market appraisal and working with stakeholders Tourism UK was able to identify a solution for the site which would enable it to reopen as a sustainable visitor attraction.

Our task in Norwich was to look at a number of proposed options and test these against the demands of the business tourism market. Testing the options requires consideration not only of the demand for facilities in that area but also of the appeal of the destination brand.
